WWW Wednesday is a weekly post hosted by Taking On a World of Words. Every Wednesday, the posters present their answers to the 3 W’s:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
What am I currently reading?
I’m about halfway done with Fireborne, and it is great so far. I mean, come on. Dragons. A nation still finding its footing in the wake of a revolution. A societal class system stratified based on (not-entirely-fair) aptitude tests. Dragons. Family loyalty vs. societal obligation. The collision of dreams and self-doubt. And did I mention the DRAGONS??
On a related note, I also recently started listening to the audiobook for Between the World and Me, and I think I like it, but I’m only about 25 minutes in, so I’ll get back to you once I’ve gotten a bit further.
What did I recently finish reading?
Just last night I finished the audiobook for Daisy Jones and the Six, and man, that was good. It’s got a full cast, and it’s the sort of book you listen to and think, This was meant to be presented as an audio, not just on paper. And the ending. Oh gosh, the ending. Good stuff.
In terms of physical books, I recently had a DNF, which set me behind a little, but before that, my most recent read was Resurrection Girls, a weird but beautiful story about grief and life (see my review here).
What do I think I’ll read next?
While of course I might rapidly change course, as I am wont to do, I am planning to dive into Scars Like Wings (which came out earlier this month, but I was approved for the ARC with literally only a week until the release date? So I’m catching up now…).
I also need to read Light It Up, Gravemaidens, and Laughter at the Academy before their publications later this month, and I am SUPER excited for those last two. Laughter at the Academy is a collection of short stories by Seanan McGuire, and that in and of itself has me completely sold. But it also comes out on Halloween, and the stories are supposed to be rather creepy and magical, so it is also a perfect seasonal read.
But, if we’re being honest, I’m going to be glad once October is done. I went a little request-happy on NetGalley earlier this year, so a lot of deadlines hit all at once, but I only have one November title and two December ones, so I’ll finally be able to get to that pile of new releases that has been growing steadily in the corner of my room. Ninth House is calling my name…as is Wayward Son…and Serpent & Dove…
Basically, I’m reading a lot of books, and I have way too many others to get to as well. What are you currently reading? Read any of these or have opinions on them? I always love to hear your thoughts!
All the best,
