Where did all my comment sections go?

Two posts in a day? Insanity, I know, but this one isn’t about books. There is a picture of a puppy at the end, though. See, last week, when I posted my responses to the Sunshine Blogger Award, one of my followers sent me a message through my site’s Questions page, letting me know that the comments on the post were turned off for some reason. I figured it was a quirk or a glitch of some sort, but I manually went into the post’s details and fixed it. No problem, right?

Well, today, I became aware that this problem is continuing to happen, now on the majority of my posts, including the one from earlier today. I have no idea why WordPress is disabling comments, especially since:
a) In my site settings, I have it set so that all posts will automatically allow comments, and
b) They aren’t even disabled on every post, just most of them–it’s totally random.

Fortunately, I’ve been able to go back and manually turn them on for each neglected post, but I still don’t know how to fix whatever internal error is causing it in the first place. Anyone else had this happen before? Got any further suggestions I could try to fix it?

On a related note, huge apologies to those of you whose comments I haven’t replied to; I also found today that quite a few (many from a single, non-spam user?) comments were flagged as Spam and put in a separate folder where I wasn’t notified about them. I’m so sorry for any delayed responses or anything else related to that–I promise I wasn’t ignoring you!

Here’s a picture of my dog, who does not understand how beds work (this was a static pose, not an action shot), as a thank-you for reading this!

(Also, if you want to go back now and comment on all the posts that had comments shut down…well, it would make me feel a little better, both to know that the comments work and to know that people actually liked them, because I am the sort of person who desperately needs validation. If you’re into the whole “5 love languages” thing, mine is most definitely Words of Affirmation.)

Much love and more apologies,

Kathryn (“K-Specks”)

Honestly, I’m just hoping it doesn’t keep happening! It would be so much easier if there was a discernible pattern as far as when it happens…

I think I’m going to hang on for a few more days, now that I have triple-checked my settings, and see if it does it again–if it does, I’ll contact them right away. Good to know that they’re actually helpful! 😊

I’ve had to contact them twice and they were very prompt and were persistent until the problem was solved! Good luck!

Yay for the comments coming back up! I didn’t know how to mention or bring it up in case you had turned it off on purpose, but I was wondering why all of a sudden they were disabled 😅 Such an adorable doggo 😍

Yes, if they’re being weird again sometime in the future, PLEASE let me know! Comment on something that doesn’t have them closed or send a message through the “questions” page or whatever works…because I had absolutely no idea this was happening, and still have no idea why it did in the first place 😓

And thanks, her name is Bella 😊
