Top Ten Tuesday 1/21 – new books new books new books

Boy howdy, it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these! Between my heart surgery and the holidays and just generally not being overly fond of some prompts, it’s been about a month with no Top Ten Tuesday, but finally, here’s one I can actually do. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly themed post hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, and this week’s theme is “The Ten Most Recent Additions to My Bookshelf.” If we’re being honest, this is still kind of tricky for me–I don’t buy a ton of books, and it’s not like I regularly receive ARCs or gifts of books either–but between the various places I get books from, I have cobbled together this list, sorted by source. Enjoy!

All three of these came from Half-Price Books, because I am a notorious bargain-shopper.

1. A Heart So Fierce and Broken

I’ve been waiting on this one to come in at the library, and it says they have three copies on order, but as of yesterday none of those had actually been processed or anything. Honestly not even sure if they’ve arrived at the library yet. I’m participating in a Facebook challenge called Reading Rivalry this month, and this book is part of my TBR for that. With just about a week to go, I decided to bite the bullet and buy it so I will have time to finish. Plus, I already own the first one, so now I can have the complete series (to date, anyway).

2. The Hazel Wood

Went to HPB with a friend over the holidays, and this one just looked so pretty, I couldn’t resist. It sounds good, and I know the second one just came out. What can I say? I’m weak-willed.

3. Hope Never Dies

Same trip with my friend, we saw this book and both thought it looked hilarious. A fictional story of Obama and Biden, post-White House, teaming up to solve crimes? AMAZING. We decided we would both read it and then discuss; I just finished it last night and, yes, it was a good bit of campy fun. I’ll have a review up soon 😊

4. You’re Not Listening

Interestingly, I didn’t outright request this one. A while ago, I put my name down on Celadon’s site to be added to their list of bloggers/early reviewers, and I was surprised when this showed up in my mail a couple weeks ago! It sounds really good. They sent it to me literally days before it came out, so I haven’t had a chance to review yet (and it won’t exactly be an early review), but I’m excited to check it out.

Also, this is the first time I’ve gotten a print ARC that I didn’t request (I don’t think it’s quite unsolicited, since I’m on their list, but I had no idea they were actually sending this one…), so I’m kind of really surprised, but in a good way!

Okay, I don’t know if library books technically count as “additions to my shelf,” but I was having a hard time remembering the most recent books I have purchased or received, and these are still physical books that will be on my shelf for at least a couple weeks, so…recent library checkouts seemed like fair game.

5. Blood Heir

This book is one of the group reads for TBR and Beyond this month, and I had been really looking forward to it anyway. Seemed like a natural choice. I’m about a quarter of the way through so far and am enjoying it.

6. Vicious

Another TBR and Beyond group read, actually, though this one is in a less formal group-chat sort of setting. I can’t believe I still haven’t read anything by V.E. Schwab, so I’m going to try and FINALLY get to this one.

These last four are kind of cheating, since I got them for Christmas and already posted about them, but honestly, they’re the only other books I’ve added to my shelf in recent memory. You can take a look at my book haul post if you want more info on them (and really nice pictures that I put some semblance of effort into!).

7. Maisie Dobbs

8. The Corinthian

9. Dreamland Burning

10. The Curse of Chalion

That’s all for now! What have you guys been buying/receiving recently? Anything you’re really looking forward to? Any favorites from my list? Let me know!

All the best,

Kathryn (“K-Specks”)
